Name: Alice Biddle

Sports/Activities: Multiple – Cycling and Water Sports.

My name is Alice and I have Spina Bifida Occulta. At 23 years of age, I had to learn to walk again following a series of spinal operations. Now at age 30, I am continuing my walking journey, but through a simple search on Google in October 2024, I found accessible opportunities through Herts Disability Sports Foundation. With their support, I have been able to participate in cycling, paddleboarding and boxercise – all activities I never thought I would be able to do. Through taking part in sport, I have found my purpose – to be having fun, both on the water and on my Berkel bike.

Not only this, but I have also found the confidence to become a volunteer, providing encouragement and help to others attending the same sessions. In just over a year, I have gone from “having a go” to being a regular face at multiple Herts Disability Sports Foundation sessions. It’s a huge part of my weekly plans and although I don’t really know what’s next for me, that does not phase me one bit! Through the journey I have been on in the last year, I feel that my opportunities are limitless!

Remember, not every activity will be for you, but I’d recommend trying! That might just be a phone call about an activity, but who knows, that phone call could end up being a sport or activity you grow to love!
