Campaign Ambassador - Jake Conroy
Name: Jake Conroy
Sports/Activities: Golf
Locality: Dacorum
My name is Jake Conroy, and I was born with mild Cerebral Palsy. From as early as I can remember, I never believed that it would make me any different from anyone else. If anything, it gave me a stronger sense of determination and a refusal to be defined by limitations. Growing up, I was always drawn to sport. I played everything from football to athletics, embracing every opportunity to compete, improve, and feel part of a team. Among all the sports I experienced, it was golf that truly captured me. There was something about the precision, the focus, and the quiet resilience the game demands that resonated deeply, and I fell in love with it at an early age.
That passion has shaped the path I’ve taken in life. Today, I work for The Golf Trust charity as a Senior Coach, where I have the privilege of helping young people discover the joy of sport, just as I did. My role goes far beyond teaching technique; it’s about breaking down barriers and ensuring that every child, regardless of their background or ability, feels included and empowered. In 2015, I was incredibly proud to be recognised as Young Volunteer of the Year, an award given for my contribution to the Golf Trust charity. It was a moment that reinforced my belief in the work we do and the difference sport can make.
One of the highlights of my journey has been completing Project 25, an initiative that involved raising over £80,000 to fund paragolfers and provide greater access to the game. More recently, I had the opportunity to travel to New York with the charity, promoting accessibility for golf in Manhattan and sharing the message that the sport should be open to everyone, everywhere.
Looking ahead, my main goal in life is to continue working with The Golf Trust and to keep pushing for greater accessibility in sport, especially golf. I want to ensure that no child ever feels excluded, and that everyone has the chance to step onto a course and believe, as I always have, that they are just as capable as anyone else.
