My sporting journey began at university in 2021, at a time when I was still coming to terms with being physically disabled at the age of 25. I started playing wheelchair basketball with the university team, and it quickly became something that gave me energy, structure and a sense of belonging. It wasn’t just about competing; it was about discovering a community that allowed me to be myself.

Like many disabled athletes, I experienced barriers along the way. Money was, and continues to be, a constant challenge, especially with the large cost of basketball wheelchairs. Nonetheless, I have never been alone in tackling those obstacles. I have built a fantastic community of friends and they have encouraged me to keep going even when things felt tough and their belief made the journey easier. It reminded me that everyone deserves access to sport, no matter their circumstances.

As I improved, my pathway started to evolve. I entered the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and was eventually picked up by the Aces, a moment that completely changed my direction. Being part of a higher‑level environment pushed me to grow as both a player and a person. I learned to adapt, to push myself and to make changes to my sporting routine that allowed me to stay healthy and involved. Those experiences shaped my confidence and helped me understand my strengths in a new way.

Looking ahead, I want to keep playing, but this time for fun, connection and enjoyment rather than pressure. I’m excited to use social media to share my journey, speak publicly about disability and sport, and take every opportunity that comes my way. If my story can help someone else feel confident enough to try something new, then that’s something I’ll always be proud of.
