Campaign Ambassador - Tom Horey
Name: Tom Horey
Sports/Activities: Workforce
Locality: East Herts
I’ve always been passionate about sport from a young age, playing football, tennis, rugby, and sailing whenever I could. Sport has helped shape who I am today; building long term friendships, developing key skills and a real sense of enjoyment in being active. I am now Senior Project Officer for Health at Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership (HSP), where I play a key role in shaping opportunities for people across Hertfordshire to be active and improve their wellbeing.
Nonetheless, my journey into the sport and physical activity workforce wasn’t straightforward. After sustaining a serious spinal injury while playing rugby as a teenager, my life changed dramatically. From there, I had to rebuild not just physically, but mentally and socially too. When I was thinking about what I wanted to do in life, I didn’t have a clue. The only thing I was sure of was my love for sport, so I thought why not explore opportunities that align my career with that passion? With support, I started reaching out to sporting organisations to look for volunteering opportunities and one of the first organisations I came across was HSP.
That volunteering experience gave me real insight into the sector and helped me understand the extent to which sport and physical activity can impact lives. It made me realise this was something I truly wanted to be part of. Luckily, I must have made a good impression while volunteering, as HSP supported me in undertaking a degree apprenticeship - studying Business Management at the University of Hertfordshire while continuing to work there.
After graduating, I secured a full-time role with the Partnership and have since progressed through a number of roles and responsibilities. Now I help to create opportunities for people to move more in ways that are meaningful and accessible to them. This includes working with partners to embed physical activity into wider health pathways and ensuring that those who would benefit most are supported to become more active.
Today, I’m passionate about using my lived experience to help shape and improve opportunities for others, particularly those facing health challenges, disabilities, or barriers to being active. That’s why I’m especially proud to be a No Limits 2026 Ambassador, championing an important campaign that promotes inclusion and opportunity for all.
