Name: Sasha McBride

Sports/Activities: Taekwondo

Locality: North Herts

I began training in Taekwondo when I was six years old and I am now a 1st Dan (1st Degree) TAGB Taekwondo Black Belt. My older brother was already a member of the club, and I soon followed in his footsteps. I have been fortunate to be a part of TAGB’s welcoming community, where we support one another and push ourselves to develop our skills in Taekwondo.

Though I may have a visual impairment which can produce challenges, I have always found Taekwondo to have an inclusive and accommodating community. My club members and instructors have always been lovely and supportive, and, after more than 11 years, Taekwondo remains one of my favourite activities.

I am now a Youth Ambassador for British Blind Sport and am looking forward to continuing my training in taekwondo as I progress throughout the belts. I also hope to expand my involvement by training to become an assistant instructor and potentially an umpire. Ultimately, I want to demonstrate that a disability should never be perceived as a limit or barrier. Anyone with a disability can pursue and achieve their own sporting ambitions.
