Disability Sport & Physical Activity 

Within Hertfordshire, there are dozens of fantastic opportunities for people with all kinds of disabilities to get involved in all kinds of sport, from football or tennis to swimming or archery. There’s something for everybody, but there’s still more to be done. Herts Sport & Activity Partnership collaborates with various organisations across the sector to support the delivery of a range of sport and physical activity opportunities. 

Opportunities & Organisations 

Herts Disability Sports Foundation

The Herts Disability Sports Foundation (HDSF) is a charity promoting and providing sporting activities for people with disabilities. The Foundation also supports inclusive training and coach development for participants, coaches and day service staff; providing a holistic approach to inclusive sports development. 

In addition to this, we provide open sessions which are available to anybody with a disability, and their siblings or friends. These sessions include archery, Easy Rider adapted cycling, doughnutting, fishing and bell boating. The Foundation is also able to cater for organisations that would like to take part in corporate activities with a Paralympic twist. 

Finally, we are able to run activities from a variety of facilities across Hertfordshire. Activities include archery, basketball, Boccia, dance, Easy Rider adapted cycling, fitness and mobility, team building activities and wheelchair basketball.

Special Olympics

An organisation offering sporting opportunities for people with learning difficulties aged 8+; their main focus is to offer sport at all levels and for all abilities. Hertfordshire is lucky to have an excellent branch of the Special Olympics in St Albans.

Watford FC Community Sports & Education Trust

The Watford FC Community Sports & Education Trust is delivering the Premier League and BT Disability programme to help offer opportunities for disabled people through sport by embedding a culture of inclusivity across the trust. This will ensure that disabled people can access sport or physical activity of their choice, be inspired to be more active and be encouraged to develop the skills and confidence needed to realise their potential.

Saracens Sport Foundation

The Saracens Sport Foundation is the charitable arm of the premiership rugby team, Saracens, based at Allianz Park in Hendon. Saracens Sport Foundation offer a range of sport and physical activity programmes for individuals with disabilities, both in Hertfordshire and North London. Disability Tennis at Gosling

Coaching sessions are available for players with learning disabilities, visual impairment, hearing impairment and wheelchair tennis.

Inclusive United

Inclusive United CIC is an award-winning Community Interest Company that creates opportunities in sport for young adults with learning disabilities and SEN. Founded through lived experiences, Inclusive United provides a wide range of inclusive sport sessions across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas, including programmes in schools and outreach work with colleges, and community groups. 

Inclusive United sessions are designed to be fun, confidence-boosting and friendship-building. They are delivered by SEN experienced, qualified coaches, some of whom have additional needs themselves, and are fully adaptable so that every participant can take part, enjoy themselves and succeed. Inclusive United’s inspiration, Thomas Light, a young lover of sport, with Downs syndrome, who is also an apprentice coach. 

Their sessions directly address the barriers many young adults face by offering a safe, supportive and fun environment where individuals can be active, learn new skills and build meaningful connections.
