What is Multiply?

Multiply, a national programme funded by the Department for Education, is on a mission to enhance adult numeracy skills for people aged 19+ in work and for those seeking employment. The programme is mainly targeted at those without a Level 2 qualification in Maths, Grade C / 4, but also considers those who may have lost confidence in Maths since achievieing a maths qualification.

Our role

Herts Sports & Phsycial Activity Partnership (HSP) delivers a unique intervention of Multiply designed around physical activity, targeting individuals with low confidence in maths to take their first steps. This initiative engages participants in 15 hours of dynamic activities that seamlessly integrate math skills into enjoyable games, promoting both movement and physical activity.

Each year, we aim to reach 200 individuals through sessions that typically run for one to two hours over a span of 10 weeks. These sessions are crafted to boost learners' confidence in maths, providing essential support for life skills and enhancing employability for those who are currently unemployed and seeking work.

Numeracy is not always a favorite subject for many, but by incorporating sport and physical activity, we have successfully blended numeracy into fun and engaging activities. This innovative approach has attracted our target audiences to the sessions and maintained an impressive 99.5% retention rate throughout the programme.

Impact So Far

  • 80+% Attendance rates across courses
