No Limits 2026 Ambassadors Shine at Special Olympics National Summer Games

Four of our No Limits 2026 Ambassadors proudly represented Hertfordshire by competing and volunteering at the Special Olympics National Summer Games

Throughout the summer, the Special Olympics National Games have taken place across the country, culminating in a spectacular four-day multi-sport event in Birmingham over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Designed for athletes with intellectual disabilities, the Games provide invaluable opportunities for individuals to participate in sport and physical activity, fostering inclusion, confidence and achievement. The 2026 event featured competitions across athletics, football, gymnastics, boccia and swimming, with several No Limits 2026 ambassadors proudly representing their club on the national stage.

Millie Smith Strikes Gold in Athletics

Representing Special Olympics St Albans (SOSA), Millie Smith enjoyed an outstanding Games at Birmingham's iconic Alexander Stadium. Millie claimed gold in the long jump, achieved a fantastic new personal best on her way to bronze in the 100m, and helped her SOSA teammates secure gold in the 4x100m relay.

Reflecting on her experience, Millie said:

"It was great fun and it's definitely important because you get to make new friends, be with people who are like you, and enjoy lots of fun and competition. It's great to have intellectual disability competitions so people can see what people with intellectual disabilities can do, not what they can't do!"

Medals Galore for Imogen Brown in the Pool

Fellow SOSA athlete Imogen Brown also delivered an exceptional performance in the pool. Having developed a love for swimming from an early age, Imogen's dedication paid off as she earned two gold medals and two silver medals across her six events, an impressive achievement at a national competition!

Speaking about her experience, Imogen said:

"My parents, sister and boyfriend all came to support and encourage me. The atmosphere was fantastic, and I felt incredibly proud of both my own achievements and those of my teammates.

We were also lucky to have our St Albans coaches with us, and my swimming coach helped prepare me for each race and calm any nerves. At the closing ceremony, it was announced that Special Olympics Great Britain is bidding to host the Special Olympics World Games in 2031. I hope they are successful!"

Emre Souleiman Impresses in Boccia

In the boccia competition, Emre Souleiman showcased excellent skill, determination and composure to finish fourth in his event. Another fantastic achievement for a member of the talented No Limits 2026 ambassador team.

Reflecting on the occasion, Emre said:

"It felt so good to be part of something special!"

Mitch Camp Gives Back Through Volunteering

The Games were not only represented by competing ambassadors. Mitch Camp volunteered throughout the event, supporting athletes as an Athlete Liaison and helping present medals to competitors. As a former National Games athlete himself, Mitch found particular satisfaction in helping others enjoy the same opportunities and experiences that had once inspired him.

Mitch said:

"Volunteering at the National Games was an incredibly rewarding experience. It was the first National Games in nine years and such a positive and inspiring event. There may have been a tear in my eye! It was a privilege to be part of an event which will hopefully create many more equal opportunities in the future."
