The Red Shed host Summer Celebration Event for the Community
The Red Shed host celebration day to bring together local community members, volunteers and supporters.
The Red Shed in Bedwell, Stevenage, recently hosted its Summer Celebration, bringing together local community members, volunteers and supporters for a day of fun, reflection and unity. The Red Shed, a dementia-friendly gardening charity, plays a vital role in supporting individuals diagnosed with dementia and their carers. Through its garden clubs, the charity creates a peaceful and nurturing environment where people with dementia can engage in therapeutic gardening activities, socialise and enjoy time outdoors. Additionally, it provides much-needed respite for carers, offering them a break from their day-to-day responsibilities while ensuring their loved ones are in a safe and welcoming space.
Located in the heart of Bedwell, the Red Shed is more than just a garden—it's a lifeline for those living with dementia. The programmes, run by volunteers, allow people with dementia to participate in therapeutic activities. Gardening is known to offer numerous benefits, such as reducing anxiety, improving mood and a sense of accomplishment. For carers, the Red Shed offers peace of mind, knowing their loved ones are engaged and cared for in a safe environment.
Jess Baird, Active Local Bedwell Officer, supported the event by securing funding to deliver a physical activity session. The day also featured a local choir group, which led a sing-along along with the group enjoying food and home-made cakes.
A special guest, Annie Brewster, High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, also attended the celebration. She spent time chatting with members, further highlighting the community's support for the Red Shed and its mission.
