ParalympicsGB Launch Get Set Be The Change

A new primary education programme helping children to develop positive attitudes towards disability

A brand new education programme from ParalympicsGB is targeting "careless assumptions" that can be harmful to people with a disability. The idea of the Social Model of Disability has been embedded in many areas of community development and inclusive practice, it is the idea that society is the barrier to people with a disability rather than the disabilities a person may have.

ParalympicsGB are bringing this learning to KS1 & 2 children through animated stories that shift how they think about disability and hopefully reduce the 41% of disabled people reporting being affected by ‘careless assumptions’ about their disability.

The Get Set Be the Change resources will aim to make talking about disability more accessible in the classroom and foster a more inclusive environment in future generations. Created with teachers, the programme also brings together creative activities and inspiring stories from Paralympians to help every child feel included and empowered.

What resources are included?

The free Be the Change programme includes:

  • 5 Lion Class animated stories, inspired by the real-life experiences of young people with a range of disabilities
  • KS1 and KS2 lesson presentations and accompanying activity sheets, tailored to each age group
  • A creative competition* with fantastic prizes, including an in-person workshop at  your school by Paralympian and illustrator, Sophie Kamlish
  • A comprehensive Teacher Guide, providing classroom tips to help you lead confident conversations around disability
  • Practical resources to support RSHE, PSHE and character education.

Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership (HSP) have been helping to remove some of the societal barriers to disability through the No Limits 2026 campaign across a range of programmes:

As numbers of people with a disability rise, particularly child neuordiversity, it is vital that young people have the skills to create an inclusive society that enables people rather than putting up barriers.
