New Healthy Recipe Book Launched at Dacorum Baytus Salaam Event
A new recipe book featuring nutritious South Asian-inspired dishes was launched at the Baytus Salaam Fun and Wellbeing Day in Dacorum
A recipe book packed with nutritious dishes using some of the favourite South Asian ingredients was launched at the Baytus Salaam (formerly Dacorum Bangladeshi Welfare Association) annual fun day with a crowd of 250 attendees.
Thanks to the NHS, Herts and West Essex Integrated Care Board Health Inequalities funding, Dacorum Borough Council kicked off a project to help reduce Type 2 diabetes and manage blood sugar levels in the local South Asian community.
The event was filled with live cooking demonstrations showcasing tasty creations such as 'Paprika Lamb Kebabs, Coconut Fish and Berry and Chocolate Mess'. Out of the 300 printed books, 150 were handed out to the participants involved, with the rest handed to local hotspots such as the Healthy Hub, the Hemel Tamil Association and Dacorum Indian Society.
In addition to the live cooking demonstrations and focus on nutrition, Everyone Active delivered a women’s pilates session, while Apex 360 kept families entertained with fun games for all. For those who wanted a break from the activities, a local pharmacist attended the event to offer blood pressure checks, with 38 adults completing checks and 14 receiving an invitation for follow up care or a recheck to support them in living a more active and healthier lifestyle.
Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership donated brand new sports equipment from curling sets and dodgeballs to cricket bats and rugby balls, for Baytus Salaam to share within their community to continue participation of physical activity.
Thank you to local MP and Councillors who also attended the event, to show their support.
“By participating in this event and providing these free health checks, we were able to actively contribute to the wellbeing of our local community. Identifying potential health risks and offering follow-up care underscores our commitment to supporting community health and ensuring that individuals receive the appropriate care they need”.
