The Covid pandemic has brought children and young people’s (CYP) mental wellbeing into sharp focus, with CYP mental health services receiving their highest ever level of referrals, as well as rising complexity and severity. Coaches, volunteers, and leaders play an important role in supporting young people’s mental health. The resources below can be used to support and signpost young people towards positive mental health.

Mind have co-produced resources on how to better support young people experiencing, or at risk or experiencing, a mental health problem. Look at Mind’s resources below:
Mind’s Wellbeing Activity Library
- Session plans and activities to integrate mental health topics and conversations into your physical activity sessions.
- A library of resources to support physical activity deliverers to:
- Spot the signs someone may be struggling
- Support them, if you feel able to
- Signpost them to help and services

Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) host a wealth of resources as well as signposting to a wide range of mental health services for young people:

Where can young people get help in Hertfordshire?
With Youth Digital Wellbeing Service
- For ages 5-18, a digital service from Herts Mind Network with emotional support, advice and information.
- For ages 7-12, a free therapeutic gaming app for those experiencing anxiety and/or phobia/s.
- For ages 10-25, an online mental health digital advice and guidance service, includes live chat and therapy sessions that don't need a professional referral.
- For ages 11-19, a confidential text messaging service to contact their local school nursing team.
- For ages 13-17, offering mental, emotional, physical health and wellbeing projects
- For ages 10-18, safe and welcoming drop-in cafes support in emotional wellbeing
- A national support service for young people under 25, in the UK
