Local Partnership Delivers Summer Parks Experience for Refugee Families

HSP was delighted to collaborate with St Albans City & District Council, Communities 1st, and the Refugee Council to coordinate multiple visits for a community group to the Welwyn Herts Summer Parks sessions this August. Communities 1st provided transport for the group—funded by St Albans City & District Council—and supported with two pick-up locations, enabling individuals and families to access the provision.

The group had the opportunity to participate in graffiti art workshops, inflatable fun, arts and crafts, and multisports. A new addition to the Summer Parks programme this year, Vojos Gaming, joined the line-up of activities. Vojos Gaming is a mobile gaming van that brings gaming to people in their local community, and the group thoroughly enjoyed bespoke races on the devices.

Simmons Bakery in Woodhall has been a key food provider since the beginning of the Summer Parks programme in 2023 and consistently goes above and beyond to deliver high-quality food to those in attendance. During the programme, the staff keep the bakery open an hour later than usual so that young people can exchange their food vouchers at the end of each session.
