High Sheriff Celebrates National Volunteers Week with a Special parkrun Award

The Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership is teaming up with the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire to celebrate her year themed Sport for Good.

On Sunday 2nd June the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, Annie Brewster JP presented parkrun hero Adam Praverman a Celebration of parkrun Award at the Hertford Junior parkrun for outstanding contribution to the parkrun community. Over 100 juniors turned up in the sunshine to celebrate Adams award and enjoy the 2k route around Hartham Common.

Adam has been a fantastic supporter of parkrun and regularly volunteers at parkrun events on a Saturday and Sunday. At the 5k events he regularly takes the Park walker or Tail walker roles ever since a series of health issues put an end to his own running and he is a well-known and greatly appreciated volunteer across Hertfordshire - helping out other event teams when needed.

Adam is a constant at Hertford juniors where he often picks up the less popular spot of event set up to support the other Run Directors.

He is fantastic at welcoming new people to volunteer and represents exactly what parkrun is all about.

The High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, Annie Brewster JP said:

"In my year I’m making some special awards for those outstanding people who put so much into our sporting lives, they are the backbone of sport and physical activity. Adam puts his efforts into others which is what volunteering and kindness is all about. I can’t thank Adam enough and was thrilled to give him this award which is just a little token to let you know you are appreciated and valued. What a fantastic start to National Volunteering Week and I hope it inspires others to get into volunteering.”

Recipient of the Award Adam Praverman said:

"Thank you all very much, I really enjoy being here on a Sunday morning. I really enjoy seeing everyone run around and I just love being a part of parkrun and particularly junior parkrun. I really feel happy here. Sunday morning is by far my favourite time of the week. I just love the happiness that the little ones exude and it wouldn’t be possible or half as much fun without my fabulous parkrun team. What an incredible community we have!"

It’s National Volunteering Week and what a way to kick it off. If Adam has inspired you to volunteer there are lots of ways to be involved. parkrun is a free, community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate. parkrun is 5k and takes place every Saturday morning. Junior parkrun is 2k, dedicated to 4-14 year olds and their families, every Sunday morning. Head to the parkrun website to find your local event www.parkrun.org.uk

The Herts Sport and Activity Partnership are excited for the year ahead where they will be recognising lots more local volunteers celebrating their continued hard work to help get more people, more active, more often.
