Cowley Hill Health Walk Team Recognised by High Sheriff for Community Impact

The High Sheriff of Hertfordshire awarded the Cowley Hill Health Walk team for their contribution to community health and growing their volunteer team

The High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, Annie Brewster JP presented Cowley Hill Health Walk team with a Health Walks Making a Difference High Sheriff Award.

“It all started 18 months ago when David Golding and Marc Farrants trained as Health Walk Leaders and restarted a First Steps Health Walk in the heart of Cowley Hill and connected to the local Chatter Table. Now two volunteers has become a robust team of 13, many from the local area and all who play a key role in growing our Health Walks Programme and ensuring that all walkers are supported and encouraged. We want to give special recognition to volunteers such as Marc who took it upon himself to spread the word. Plus others such as Marjorie, Elaine and Bob B who are amazing, dependable volunteers."

Claire Pullen, Project Officer at Hertfordshire Health Walks

Marjorie, who lives in Elstree, has been a volunteer since 2017 and led walks in Borehamwood post Covid. She has been there from the beginning, guiding Marc and David, taking on responsibility, stepping up and quietly getting things done.

Elaine, who was trained in December 2023, has taken First Steps Walkers under her wing and looks after everyone. A big thanks to her and Lawrence for their efforts in keeping the First Step walk thriving. Bob trained in March this year and immediately became an enthusiastic volunteer. Having joined Health Walks in 2023 he’s now completed 100 walks in Aldenham, Cowley Hill and Bushey, along with recently setting up a new First Steps walk in Radlett.”

“Delighted to present a 'Making A Difference Award for Outstanding Service to Community Health & Wellbeing' to the Cowley Health Walk Team in Borehamwood. In a remarkable turnaround after the Covid Pandemic there is now a robust team of 13 volunteer Health Walk Leaders offering various length guided walks free of charge to the local community. Particular thanks to David Golding, Elaine Yiani, Marc Farants, Liz Webb, Sarah Platt, Marjorie, Lawrence and Bob!”

The High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, Annie Brewster JP
