Countryside Management Volunteers Awarded High Sheriff Making a Difference Award

The High Sheriff honoured the East Herts Mid Week Volunteer Group for conserving paths and biodiversity in Broxbourne Woods.

The Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership continue to team up with the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire to celebrate her year themed Sport for Good with some special High Sheriff Recognition Awards.

The High Sheriff of Hertfordshire Annie Brewster JP presented a Making a Difference Award for Outstanding Service to Improving the Environment for Wildlife and People to the East Herts Mid Week Volunteer Group.

The group awarded are a weekly conservation volunteer group covering the East of Hertfordshire. This group has a regular attendance of 20/25 volunteers, many or whom are trained leaders and first aiders enabling the group to take part in a wide range of activities. Some volunteers are trained in the use of machinery such as strimmers and hedgecutters. On this task they were carrying out ride management in Hertfordshire's only National Nature Reserve Broxbourne Woods to continue to promote biodiversity within the woodland.

The tasks are popular with the volunteers for a number of reasons, they get to go to places in the county where they wouldn’t normally go and jobs are generally of a kind where they can really see that they’ve made a difference. For the County Council and the public, they provide an incredibly valuable service, keeping paths, conservation areas and green areas open and safe to use.

“I was delighted to award a Making a Difference Award' for outstanding service to the Countryside Management to the East Herts Mid Week Volunteer Group who turn out in all weathers (luckily todays was lovely sunshine) to enable the public safe access to some of East Hertfordshire's most beautiful natural locations. Thank you so much for keeping these areas accessible and beautiful for Hertfordshire residents. Well done Tom Woolgar and your impressive conservation team.”

The High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, Annie Brewster JP
