Angela Rippon’s Let’s Dance campaign launches in Hertfordshire!

The national Let’s Dance campaign was launched on Sunday 2nd March 2025, to raise awareness on the benefits dance has both physically and mentally

Founded by Angela Rippon, the national Let’s Dance campaign was launched on Sunday 2nd March 2025. The campaign raises awareness of the benefits of dance for both physical and mental health, bringing people together through dance and importantly encouraging those that don’t usually dance to give it a go.

Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership (HSP) supported the campaign, bringing together a collective of Dance Artists and Organisations who delivered Let’s Dance events across the county. The launch day, Sunday 2nd March, was a resounding success, with over 200 people joining dance activities across the county! Over 100 dancers took part in classes in Dacorum, whilst 50 people joined a Latin styles dance taster in Bishops Stortford.

Michele’s Dance Club in Cheshunt hosted a Let’s Dance Tea Dance which saw over 50 attendees and raised over £400 for Isabel Hospice. Michele Maguire, founder and principal said “It was wonderful to see so many people come along and dance. We had three generations of the same family get involved!”

In addition to face to face events, online dance opportunities have taken place including Wake Up and Dance 10 minute sessions to start your weekday mornings. Free to take part in, BEEE Creative celebrated their 4th Anniversary of hosting these dance sessions on Monday 3rd March! Over the 4 years of Wake Up and Dance, they have amounted 158 hours of dancing and seen 14,666 dancers across all sessions.

BEEE Creative reflected on the achievements and said “Thank you to our wonderful Wake Up and Dance community, who continue to brighten our weekday mornings and celebrate the benefits of dance to start our day! If you’re interested in joining, find out more on BEEE Creative’s website and Let’s Dance!"

The Hertfordshire activity finder, Moving More (www.movingmore.co.uk), driven by HSP, shares details of over 20,000 activities taking place across the county, including over 200 dance classes taking place over the next two weeks.

Charlotte Bird, HSPs Active Ageing Officer said “I would like to express my appreciation for the generosity and passion of the dance teachers and organisations who have enthusiastically adopted the Let’s Dance national campaign. It has been shown that movement and dance generates £3.5 billion of social value every year; every minute spent dancing will improve the health and wellbeing of residents, so we are delighted to support this campaign to get people moving more!”
