Welcome to the launch of the “Active Local Hub”

A new heart for community life in Waltham Cross

We’re excited to announce the opening of the Active Local Hub, a fresh and welcoming new community space in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire. Jointly hosted by the Community Alliance Broxbourne and East Herts and the Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership, the Hub is the new home of the Partnership’s place-based project, Active Local, which focuses on supporting local children and young people to become active. It is a new co-created space being shaped by local needs, and open to everyone who wants to connect, take part, or simply feel more at home in their local area.

The building sits right at the heart of Waltham Cross Playing Fields, a long-valued playing space for residents, and brings with it a range of facilities. Inside, visitors will find a bright meeting room suitable for local groups, clubs, workshops, and gatherings, along with a kitchenette, toilets, and changing-room facilities that make it ideal for both social and sports-related activity. Outside, there are opportunities to book both adult and youth football pitches, offering even more ways for the community to come together, be active, and make the most of the space.

“What makes the Active Local Hub special, is its multi-purpose said Active Local Officer, Matt Ridley. It is being co-created to encourage people to come in, meet each other, share ideas, and build a sense of belonging. Whether you’re looking for somewhere to run an activity, host a meeting, celebrate a birthday, or simply drop in for a friendly chat, the Hub is here to support you.”

A member of the Active Local team will be around most Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 10am to 4pm. The team will be available on site for anyone, especially children, young people and their families, to talk about ways to get more active, discover opportunities, explore their ideas, and get involved in shaping local sport facilities and activities in Waltham Cross.

This new Hub, which was refurbished as part of the UK Government's Levelling Up Fund, represents an investment in place and people. It’s a chance to strengthen community identity, encourage healthier lifestyles and create new connections among neighbours of all ages. It is a space being designed to grow with the community, shaped by the ideas and energy of the people who live here.

If you’d like to book the venue for activities, meetings or parties, or if you’re interested in hiring the football pitches, please contact Office Manager, Penny Leighton on 0300 123 1034. The door is open, the kettle is boiled, and the team is ready to welcome you. Come and help shape what this space can become.
