Visual Impairment Inclusion in Sport & Physical Activity

The third event in our No Limits 2026 Disability Inclusion Learning Series led by British Blind Sport

Delivered by two-time Paralympic cycling champion Lora Fachie OBE PLY and now Workforce Development Officer for British Blind Sport, this in-person workshop is designed to enhance your understanding of how you can support individuals with a visual impairment across sporting settings. The full-day workshop combines both theory and practical elements to ensure there are multiple opportunities to apply learning to a range of sporting scenarios. These include practical ways to adapt delivery of sports such as football, cricket, athletics, tennis, fitness classes and gym work but also how to communicate with, and support those with visual impariments to navigate your facility or access your services. Participants will benefit from the session being led by an individual with a wealth of lived and professional experience of both participating in and delivering adapted sport to those with a visual impairment.

Designed for leisure centre providers and sports coaches, the workshop aims to:

· Increase the confidence of all participants when supporting those who are blind and partially sighted, who may come to use their facility/attend their session.

· Upskill participants around good communication and terminology.

· Learn about sight loss and the pathways and opportunities within sport.

· Learn about relevant adaptations that can be made to the equipment used within the venue and how to make sessions inclusive for those with sight loss.

· How to make your social media comms, forms, and website more accessible. Participants will learn how to ‘guide’ someone with sight loss appropriately and correctly.
