Stronger After Stroke: Supporting Recovery, Activity and Independence

Celebrate Stroke Awareness Month by joining our webinar to learn more about stroke and supporting stroke survivors.

Stroke remains one of the UK’s most significant health challenges, with over 1.2 million people currently living as stroke survivors and approximately 100,000 new strokes occurring each year (that’s the equivalent of one every five minutes), but with the right support, recovery and daily life can be greatly improved.

This May, in recognition of Stroke Awareness Month, Live Longer Better in Hertfordshire invites you to join a dedicated and insightful webinar focused on improving support for stroke survivors, as well as those who care for and work alongside them.

Delivered in partnership with the Stroke Association, Headway Hertfordshire and expert insight from an NHS Community Neuro Physiotherapist, this session brings together leading voices to inform, educate and empower attendees.

  • Explore how to support stroke survivors and individuals with brain injuries to self-manage and stay physically active
  • Discover local services and resources that can support recovery and rehabilitation

Meet the speakers:

  • Tracey Hughes - Engagement Officer (East Region) for the Community Neuro Service for Stroke Association. I support life after stroke service development across Herts, Beds & Milton Keynes. This involves working with NHS, council and community partners to ensure that people affected by stroke have access to existing and new opportunities in communities. Raising awareness of stroke risk is also a key part of my role.

  • John Archer – Chief Executive Officer of Headway Hertfordshire. I am proud to have been the CEO of Headway Hertfordshire for the past 10 years. Our dedicated and highly experienced small team provide a range of services to enable adults with brain injuries and their carers and family to cope with their life changes and move forward to achieve their best possible outcomes. We work with our clients in groups at local community centres, at home, on the phone, online or wherever they feel at ease and safe. Our support is not time limited, and we are there for the long-term support in the community as the effects of a brain injury can change over time as do the needs of our clients.

  • Charlotte Foley - Community Neuro Physiotherapist, Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust. As a Community Neuro Physiotherapist, I assess and treat people with neurological conditions such as strokes, brain and spinal cord injuries and conditions such as FND. We help rehabilitate those who have returned home soon after their event. We help build their strength, balance and mobility. We aim to help people settle back at home so that they can start to engage with the wider community.
