Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership is proud to support the Hatfield Walking Squash Club in securing Sport England funding to launch Squashed Egos, a social walking squash initiative designed to keep older adults (50 and over) moving and connected through a more accessible version of squash, with a thoughtful approach to accessibility, Squashed Egos uses modified rules and equipment to make the game suitable for a wider range of physical abilities.
Squash is often viewed as a fast-paced, high-intensity sport, but Squashed Egos challenges this perception. Through walking squash, participants play at a gentler pace using a bouncier red-spot squash ball, which slows the game down and allows for easier rallies. The court area is reduced, making movement more manageable, while still offering the core physical and mental benefits of the sport.
Whether you've never played before or it's been years since you last picked up a racket, these sessions are designed to be inclusive, supportive and most importantly enjoyable. Many participants report gaining confidence and skills quickly, thanks to the welcoming environment and emphasis on fun and connection.
The programme is also suitable for those living with long-term health conditions, supporting a more active lifestyle in later life and helping combat isolation through shared activity and conversation.
