Opening Schools Facilities in Hertfordshire

Poor facilities and lack of suitable opportunities to be active are often significant barriers to being active, particularly when facing disadvantage.

Poor facilities and lack of suitable opportunities to be active are often significant barriers to being active, particularly when facing disadvantage.

This can be down to many reasons including cost of activity, not being inclusive for people with disabilities or the offer not being led by youth or community voice. Opening Schools Facilities (OSF), school funding programme from Department for Education, has enabled 30 development plans with schools across Hertfordshire between April 2023 – March 2024.

These schools have been able to improve their facilities with new equipment to support more activity on school sites for pupils and community users but also create tailored projects that target women and girls, people with disabilities, children on free school meals and ethnically diverse communities.

We are delighted to have delivered 61 projects and 441 additional hours of school’s facilities a week have been opened for free or affordable activity to take place, supporting the most disadvantaged communities in Hertfordshire.
