As part of the National Paralympic Heritage Trust's ‘Meet the Paralympian’ series, they will be hosting two free online talks with guest speaker Olivia Broome, professional Para powerlifter, World Champion and two-time Paralympic bronze medallist. One session is aimed at schools (KS1-3) and home educated children, and the other at adults, universities and secondary schools. These events will be supported by a BSL interpreter.
Olivia discovered Para powerlifting at just 15, when she attended a taster session at Loughborough University. Back then, she admits she didn’t think she could perform in a strength sport. Since then, she has gone on to win medals at two Paralympic Games and two Commonwealth Games, breaking records along the way. She became World Champion in 2023 and is the current European Champion.
In this free online talk, Olivia will share her journey from that first taster session to her experiences as an elite athlete. She’ll talk about the challenges she has faced along the way, and the confidence and empowerment that can come from getting stronger.
A full-time professional athlete and content creator, Olivia is also a keen video gamer and lover of alternative rock. She’s also passionate about the wider health benefits of strength training, and her talk will offer young people a real-life example of what can happen when you realise you are ‘stronger than you think’.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to take part in a live Q&A, asking Olivia questions about her experiences in sport and her journey to the Paralympic Games. Please submit your questions in advance, as indicated during booking.
