KS5 Leaders Trained to Champion Disability Inclusion in Sport

62 Key Stage Five students come together for a training day to support disability inclusion in sport and physical activity.

Sixty-two Key Stage 5 student leaders from mainstream schools across Hertfordshire came together at Nobel School, Stevenage, for a dynamic training day focused on disability inclusion in sport and physical activity .The event,  organised by Inclusion 2028 in partnership with the School Games Organisers (SGOs), aimed to equip young leaders with the skills and confidence to support inclusive sports festivals throughout the 2025–26 academic year.

Representing six SGO areas - Hertford & Ware (Richard Hale & Simon Balle), Dacorum (Longdean), Stevenage (Nobel), Queens (Queens School), and St Albans (Loreto) - students engaged in a carousel of inclusive activities. These included tennis, led by the Herts LTA, table cricket delivered by Herts Cricket, boccia, and a specialist session on adapted equipment, helping support pupils with visual impairments using the STEP adaptation tool both delivered by Inclusion 2028 tutors

The training is part of the preparations for Hertfordshire’s Year of Disability Sport & Physical Activity 2026, with leaders set to play an active role in upcoming School Games and Inclusion 2028 festivals. Their first event will be at the Festival of Sport for Special Schools on 20th November 2025, followed by the Visual Impairment Festival on 21st January 2026, and the Commonwealth-themed event on 25th March 2026.

With this, the initiative not only aims to empower young people to lead with empathy and inclusion but also help strengthen the commitment across Hertfordshire to create sustained access to sporting experiences for all.
