On 19 November, Harpenden & District Indoor Bowling Club (HDIBC) welcomed players and guests for a landmark event: a trhilling match between Herts Indoor Bowls Association (HIBA) and a Visually Impaired Bowls England (VIBE) Allstars Team. This special occasion supported the official launch of the No Limits 2026 campaign, part of Hertfordshire's Year of Disability Sport & Physcial Activity.
The initiative brings together HDIBC, HIBA and its member clubs—including Luton Indoor Bowling Club, 12 Hertfordshire outdoor bowling clubs—alongside the Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership (HSP), Activity Alliance, Harpenden Town Council, the Mayors of St Albans, Dacorum and Harpenden, and VIBE. The goal for the day was to champion fully accessible, inclusive sport and create welcoming environments for people of all abilities.
This match was the first step in a 15-month programme designed to educate, train and support bowls clubs across the region in opening their doors to everyone. The day highlighted the importance and impact of inclusive sport, setting the tone for what promises to be a transformative year.
The event was attended by Madam Mayors Terry Heritage (St Albans), Catherine McArevey (Dacorum) and Beth Fisher (Harpenden), who joined players in celebrating this milestone. Clubs from Herts, Watford, Luton, Harpenden, Hatfield and Cheshunt were represented, proudly wearing their colours to showcase unity and commitment to accessibility.
The match itself was played in great spirit, with both teams demonstrating exceptional skill. Among the stars of the day were the players’ guide dogs—who, along with the Mayors, stole the show!
