Inaugural National Para Badminton League to Culminate in Hertfordshire This June

A new para-badminton league has brought eight teams together from across the country, with an exciting finale set for Hertfordshire this June.

International Para Badminton athlete and HSP’s No Limits 2026 Board Champion, Gobi Ranganathan, who along with fellow Para-badminton players Martin Rooke (PLY) and Meva Singh Dhesi, helped form a local inclusive badminton clubHerts Toppers – have until this year only had the opportunity to regularly play in an able-bodied league.

Keen to grow the competitive opportunities for the para-badminton game, Herts based Gobi was the driving force behind establishing the inaugural national Para-Badminton League which started in January 2026 and has since seen the following eight teams compete against each other from all around the country.

  • Canterbury Kings

  • Cheshire Centurions

  • Herts Toppers

  • Nottingham

  • Southwest Sharks

  • Southwest Stingrays

  • Westfield

  • Wimbledon

Throughout the season each team has played against each other at central venues competing for the prestigious title. The league started at the beginning of the year in Nottingham where all teams came together for rounds one and two. Then in March four teams met in Birmingham and the other four teams in Wimbledon for rounds three and four. The league will culminate in the final rounds being played at the Hertfordshire Sports Village on the 6th and 7th June, where one team will be crowned as champions. Going into the final weekend where all teams will be brought back together, Herts Toppers are currently leading with a few teams close behind on points, so it is all to play for and it should turn out to be a very exciting weekend at the Hertfordshire Sports Village where you will see some of the best para-badminton players in the country in action - spectators are welcome.

Community Taster session (Physical Disabilities)

On the second day of competition, Sunday 7th June, Badminton England coaches and some of the players are kindly hosting a Para badminton community taster session (open to those with Physical disabilities of all ages in Hertfordshire), as part of the event which is due to run 09:00-10:15am before the actions starts at 10:30am. Attendees are then welcome to stay on to spectate the main event.
