Hatfield Health Day 2025

Hatfield Health Day brought the community together for a lively event focused on health, movement, and wellbeing.

Hatfield Leisure Centre had a buzz of energy on Friday 11 July 2025, as Hatfield Primary Care Network (PCN) held its first-ever Hatfield Health Day, a vibrant community event that brought residents together to celebrate health, movement, and wellbeing.

The event, organised in partnership between Hatfield PCN, Hatfield Leisure Centre and a range of community partners proved to be a resounding success, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd of all ages eager to explore new ways to lead healthier lives.

Throughout the day, visitors took part in a wide array of taster sessions designed to get people moving and having fun. From the calming stretches of Chair Yoga, to the higher paced yet still accessible action of Zumba, Walking Squash, Pickleball, Table Tennis, and Judo for Safer Falling, there was something for everyone, regardless of age or fitness level.

In addition to physical activities, the event also featured a series of educational sessions focused on healthier living. Experts from local organisations and healthcare professionals led talks and interactive workshops built on developing understanding of preventative healthcare. Topics covered included mindfulness, Live Longer Better in Hertfordshire (healthy ageing), nutrition, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and how to make the most of the NHS app. These sessions provided practical tips and resources to help individuals make lifestyle changes, empowering attendees with knowledge to support their long-term wellbeing.

Outside the leisure centre, attendees were welcomed by the Herts County Council Better Health Bus, which played a vital role in the day’s focus on preventative care. The mobile unit offered free health checks, including blood pressure monitoring, BMI assessments, and general wellbeing advice. The service proved popular, with many visitors taking the opportunity to gain valuable insights into their health and receive personalised guidance in a relaxed environment.

Local organisations and charities also played a key role in the event. Stalls were hosted by groups including the Herts Disability Sports Foundation, the Welwyn & Hatfield Healthy Hub, Hertfordshire Health Walks, Age UK, Beezee, the local GP personalised care team, as well as the Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership. These services offered expert advice and resources on staying active, ageing well, and accessing local health and wellbeing support services.

Stall-holder, Nathan Burrell from Beezee commented on the day:

"The event was fantastic and very well-organised. It was such a vibrant, varied and well-attended event, and there was a real buzz about the place and the event as a whole felt substantial and eventful. Congrats on the great work and hope to see you again at the next one."

The event drew not only enthusiastic local residents but also received strong backing from government representatives. Notable attendees included the Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield Borough (Lynn Chesterman OBE), the Hatfield Mayor (Mick Wise), and Welwyn Hatfield MP (Andrew Lewin).

Anna Skiba, Project Coordinator of Hatfield PCN and organiser of this incredible event commented:

"We, the primary care team in Hatfield, believe that we need to create solutions that make it easier for people to be healthy in their own communities. The aim of the event was to provide an awareness of activities and services available to the local community and to focus on preventative and supportive resources to strengthen and interconnect our work as the local health care provider with the wider networks of partners. It feels like the event went very well and created a space for the patients to come and join the activities, listen to the health related talks and just have a bit of fun while learning about healthy lifestyle.

As the old saying goes- prevention is better than cure- we hope we can help and support our local community to stay healthy and to develop behaviours and habits to support their health and wellbeing".

Demonstrating clear steps to increase physical activity and reduce sedentary behaviour among patients, the event also highlights Hatfield Primary Care Network’s (PCN) commitment as an accredited Active Practice. By collaborating with local providers like Hatfield Leisure Centre, the PCN not only supports people to move more, but also helps strengthen connections between the health system and the physical activity sector.

Overall, the day was acknowledged as a great success, showcasing the wealth of health and wellbeing resources available across Hatfield.
