Free junior parkrun launching soon in Waltham Cross

New junior parkrun set to launch in Waltham Cross, boosting opportunities for young people

A brand-new junior parkrun is set to launch in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire this spring, creating exciting new opportunities for children and families to get active in their local community.

The free, weekly event will take place at Waltham Cross Playing Fields, Station Approach, EN8 7LU, adding to the area’s growing range of accessible sport and physical activity opportunities. Open to children aged 4–14, the 2km run event aims to provide a fun, inclusive environment where young people can enjoy being active, develop confidence and build healthy habits for life.

The launch event will take place on Sunday 3 May at 9am, with participants encouraged to sign up in advance via the official booking link HERE

The new junior parkrun has been funded through the Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership’s Active Local programme, a place-based approach supported by Sport England through its ‘Place Universal Offer’ investment. The project focuses on increasing opportunities for people in areas that would benefit most from greater access to physical activity, helping to address inequalities and support healthier, more active communities.

By bringing junior parkrun to Waltham Cross, partners are aiming to create a welcoming, community-led activity that removes barriers to participation and encourages families to be active together. The event is delivered by volunteers and is part of the wider parkrun movement, which has become a popular way for communities across the UK to connect through physical activity.

Local organisers are encouraging families, schools and community groups to get involved, whether by taking part, volunteering, or simply coming along to support on launch day.

With its inclusive format and regular weekly schedule, the new junior parkrun is expected to become a key feature of the local activity offer, supporting healthier lifestyles and stronger community connections in Waltham Cross.
