First-Ever 'Live Longer Better with Dementia Celebration Day'

Friday 6th June , 10am-3pm

Building on the success of the annual Live Longer Better in Hertfordshire Celebration Day (launched in 2023) the Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership (HSP) are proud to announce their first ever Live Longer Better with Dementia Celebration Day, a dedicated event supporting people living with Dementia and their carers’. The event is funded by East Herts District Council, Hertfordshire County Council and is in partnership with the new Memory Support Hertfordshire service. It will take place on Friday 6th June 2025, at Wodson Park in Ware. The event forms part of the broader Live Longer Better in Hertfordshire movement, which recognises the importance of activity to enable older adults to maintain their independence, encouraging longer, healthier and happier lives.

Currently, there are around 14,638 Hertfordshire residents aged 65 and over living with Dementia, with that number projected to rise to 21,897 by 2030. Many of those residents may be living with additional long-term health conditions, such as frailty or arthritis, which can make daily life even more challenging. This free to attend event, will offer an inclusive, inspiring space for people living with Dementia and their carers’, to engage in a wide array of accessible taster sessions, led by local organisations, where physical activity, social connection and cognitive wellbeing will take centre stage.

Attendees can enjoy activities such as chair yoga, indoor bowls, walking sports, singing, seated cricket and much more. In addition to promoting physical wellbeing, the day also provides a valuable opportunity to connect with community organisations offering specialised support and resources for those living with memory loss or dementia.

In launching the event, Live Longer Better in Hertfordshire Project Assistant, Tania Woods said: “Dementia is a growing long-term health condition that can affect many aspects of life, including the ability to stay active. We created this day to empower those living with Dementia to find activities that they enjoy, to assist their independence through movement and to support their carers’ in doing the same. Our goal is to make movement accessible for all and to shift how people think, talk and act about Dementia. Movement is a universal language that can help people reconnect with themselves and others, events like this are great way to understand the support available in their community.”
