FE Games Brings Together Hertfordshire Colleges To Celebrate Inclusive Sport

Students from Hertfordshire’s four further education colleges came together at Oaklands College for the FE Games, a vibrant day of inclusive sport.

On Monday 15th June, Oaklands College welcomed participants from the Inclusion departments of North Hertfordshire College, West Herts College, Hertford Regional College and its own students, for the FE Games, bringing together learners from across Hertfordshire’s further education sector to celebrate inclusive sport, teamwork and achievement.

The day began with a welcome from Andrew Slade, Principal and CEO of Oaklands College, highlighting the power of sport to bring people together, build confidence and create opportunities for every learner to succeed.

The event was supported by five ambassadors from the No Limits 2026 campaign: Dan Angus, Kris Aves, Alice Biddle, Ciaran Kiely and Emre Souleiman. Ciaran and Emre, both boccia players, assisted with the boccia activities, while Dan supported the overall organisation of the event.

Kris officially opened the day with an inspiring speech, sharing personal insights and highlighting the importance of sport and physical activity in everyday life. Kris encouraged students to enjoy the experience, have fun and give their best. Throughout the day, learners represented their colleges with pride and determination, embraced new activities, built confidence, and celebrated their achievements together.

Students took part in a wide range of activities, including boccia, football, cricket, javelin and archery, across two strands: Compete and Inspire & Engage. This year’s FE Games introduced a refreshed format, making enrichment more flexible, accessible and meaningful, and helping to remove barriers that can sometimes prevent learners from getting involved.

Competition, Confidence and Teamwork

In the Compete strand, each college selected 16 students to take part in two events. Students competed in either boccia or football, followed by a second activity chosen from rapid‑fire cricket, archery, or throwing. Points from all competitions were combined to decide the overall winning FE college.

Activities for Everyone to Enjoy

The Inspire & Engage strand featured a carousel of activities centred on enjoyment, confidence, and participation. Students took part in dance, circus skills, tennis, team-building challenges, and tri-golf, giving everyone the opportunity to get involved in a way that suited them.

At the end of the day, every student received a certificate, while those who competed in the sporting events were also awarded medals in recognition of their participation and achievements. Medals were presented by Annie Brewster DL, JP, Patron of the No Limits 2026 campaign.

North Hertfordshire College was named overall winner, receiving the trophy from the Mayor of the City and District of St Albans, Councillor Matt Fisher.

Organisers praised students for their enthusiasm, teamwork and positive attitude throughout the day, highlighting the FE Games as an important opportunity to celebrate inclusion, recognise achievement, and showcase the value of sport and physical activity in further education.

One of the deliverers said:

It was a privilege to support such an inspiring day at the FE Games. It was fantastic to see students challenging themselves, supporting one another and celebrating success. Events like this bring people together, build confidence and create lasting memories.
