Dacorum Clubs Secure Signifcant Funding

Clubs and organisations throughout the borough of Dacorum have been supported by Community Action Dacorum (CAD) to receive over £90,000 for sport and physical activity. Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership (HSP) approached the Council for Voluntary Service over a year ago to help establish a partnership that would support grassroots clubs and organisations with key areas such as marketing, training, recruitment of volunteers and of course funding.  

Across the last 12 months, over 50 groups have taken advantage of the programme which has seen HSP cover the initial joining fee of £50 to reduce that barrier for clubs. The programme has had substantial impact, the most notable of which has been the access to investment via the Shared Prosperity Fund which has seen £90,730 flow into Dacorum based clubs and groups via CAD.

Loretta Anderson, Head of Communities at CAD remarked “The whole programme has been excellent and mutually beneficial. 14 months ago our percentage of clubs in membership was in single figures so it has helped to bolster our ranks as well as supporting clubs with vital needs. We have a lot of experience in the voluntary sector and it is great to see local clubs take advantage of us and our services.”

20 clubs and organisations were funded in total with awards ranging from £850 to £7,500 covering 11 sports with a host of different projects.

Charlie Mann, Clubs & Workforce Lead at HSP said “CVSs like CAD can offer so much to clubs and organisations and we were really keen to put them on the map in Hertfordshire and make clubs aware of what they can do and the services they offer. We wanted to reduce the initial barrier of the joining fee but hopefully, clubs will have seen the benefit and some will retain their membership for the foreseeable future. It is arguably the best £40 they will spend.
