Celebrating Movement Through Culture – Launch of Exercise Videos

Three inclusive and culturally relevant exercise videos aimed at improving health and wellbeing for individuals from South Asian communities

In an exciting collaboration between Herts Sport & Activity Partnership (HSP), Dacorum Borough Council (DBC), and HAWA Multicultural Services CIC, three inclusive and culturally relevant exercise videos have been launched, aimed at improving health and wellbeing for individuals from South Asian communities.

The videos are now available through Moving More, Hertfordshire’s Activity Finder. The platform shares details of a variety of exercise classes and groups, and these new videos contribute to the growing selection of resources available for individuals to get ‘Moving More at Home’.

The new videos offer options for varying levels of mobility. One video features a gentle chair-based yoga session, perfect for those with limited mobility. The second video presents an energetic Garba workout, inspired by traditional South Asian folk dance, while the third video offers a fun Bollywood dance routine, designed to get viewers moving and grooving.

Each video is thoughtfully designed to be ethnically appropriate, ensuring an engaging and welcoming environment for South Asian participants.

The three videos, now live on Moving More, are:

These videos are just the beginning of a broader vision to create more culturally relevant exercise videos. Future plans include producing content inspired by other communities, such as Caribbean, Moroccan, Polish, and Romanian communities to further expand the diverse range of fitness options available.

With these inclusive resources, HSP, DBC, and HAWA aim to ensure that people from all backgrounds and abilities can access exercise that speaks to their culture, helps improve their health, and promotes a sense of community.
