Australian Para Badminton Team Trains in Hatfield before International Event

HSP were proud to welcome the Australian Para Badminton Team to the University of Hertfordshire Sports Village last week, as they prepared for their upcoming international tournament in Cardiff. 

The team, made up of high-level para-athletes, used Hertfordshire Sports Village’s high-performance facilities, and the University of Hertfordshire accessible accommodation during their stay. 

HSP’s Director, John O’Callaghan said

“It’s been an honour to welcome the Australian Para Badminton team for their training camp here in the UK. With the ‘Hertfordshire Year of Disability Sport & Physical Activity 2026’ on the horizon, it is more important than ever to create new opportunities and inspiration for growth across disability sport. We hope that by welcoming these international athletes we can provide a platform to inspire more disabled people to take part in activity.” 

This collaboration comes as HSP begins planning for the Year of Disability Sport and Physical Activity in 2026 - a campaign that will celebrate disability sport, and promote more inclusive opportunities across Hertfordshire. The campaign, aimed at empowering partners to inspire a generation, will launch later this year.   

“We believe everyone should have the chance to enjoy sport and physical activity, no matter their background or ability,” John added.
