High Sheriff of Hertfordshire to Focus on 'Sport for Good'

Annie Brewster, a Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership (HSP) Board member, has been inaugurated as the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire.

In a shift toward community engagement through sports, Annie Brewster, a member of the Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership (HSP) Board, has been inaugurated as the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire. This ceremony, which occurred at the historic St Albans Cathedral on 17 April 2024, marked the beginning of her tenure, which promises to intertwine her love for sports with her civic duties.

Annie Brewster is no stranger to the realms of local government and sports—having served as a former Mayor of St Albans City and District Council, Chair of Hertfordshire County Council, and international athlete. Her profound belief in the transformative power of sports as a cost-effective medium for positive social change is well-documented. Through her new role, she aims to address vital areas such as health and wellbeing, social inclusion, and economic prosperity via enhanced educational attainment and skill development.

With a theme of 'Sport for Good,' her tenure as High Sheriff will spotlight sports as a catalyst for nurturing community cohesion and reducing crime and disorder. John O’Callaghan, HSP Partnership Director, expressed his excitement about Annie Brewster's new role, praising her unbridled enthusiasm and dedication to promoting sports and physical activities.

"I am delighted that Annie will be the next High Sheriff of Hertfordshire and thrilled that she has adopted Sport for Good as the theme of her year in office," he stated. O'Callaghan highlighted Brewster's pivotal role in enhancing the community sports sector and making Hertfordshire a safer, better, and stronger place to live and work.

Echoing O'Callaghan's sentiments, Mervyn Morgan, Chair of the HSP Board, remarked on the significant boost Brewster's advocacy brings to the Partnership's endeavours.

"She is the perfect ambassador for community sport and physical activity,"

As High Sheriff, Annie Brewster is also set to present numerous awards recognizing outstanding contributions to Hertfordshire's sports and physical activity sector. Additionally, she will host HSP’s events programme, highlighting her commitment to promoting sports across the region.
