The key funds available to sports organisations and individuals are detailed below:

Sport England

Sport England offer a range of funding opportunities which are all linked to the delivery of their sports strategy that highlights Grow, Sustain and Excel. Their intention is to provide investment in the people, organisations and networks that grow and sustain participation in sport and lead on to sporting excellence.

Sport England distributes their funds in two ways:

• Through solicited applications - around £158 million a year is invested in organisations which have specific objectives related to community sport, such as national governing bodies (NGBs), county sports partnerships and local authorities
   
• Through open applications - a maximum of £45 million a year is available for investment in a wide range of organisations. Applications will be judged on their merits against transparent and relevant criteria

Local sports clubs and voluntary groups will not be able to access funding through the solicited route but may be able to secure funding through their relevant NGB. To enquire what funding is available please contact your NGB direct.

The funds available through the open route are:

• Small Grants (Total £7m available per annum)
  Grants of between £300 and £10,000 will be provided to support sport in communities.
   
• Sportsmatch (Total £3m available per annum)
  The Sportsmatch programme makes awards to not-for-profit organisations running projects at a community level which meet one or both of Sport England’s objectives of Grow or Sustain. They do this through matching eligible sponsorship pound for pound, up to a maximum value of £100,000 (minimum £500).
   
• Themed Rounds (Total £30m available per annum)
  Sport England are committed to 3 Themed Rounds per year, each with a total budget of £10m. The first 2 themed rounds are now closed and these were Rural Communities and Active Women. The next round has not yet been announced. Please check the Sport England website for more details. Projects which meet the criteria within a given themed round will receive grants of over £10,000 to grow and sustain participation in community sport.
   
• Sustainable Facilities Fund (Total £10m available per annum )
  Funding will be provided to support sustainable investment in major sports facilities. This programme is additional to the facilities funding that is invested through NGBs. There is normally 1 round per annum so please check the Sport England website for more details.
   
• Innovations Fund (Total £5m available per annum)
  Funding will be provided to a limited number of large projects to test out new ideas which could have a wider application. This area of funding may pose greater risk but offers a larger potential reward. There is normally 1 round per annum so please check the Sport England website for more details.
