Move more, feel great!

Throughout 2018 we encouraged Hertfordshire residents to get active. The Year of Physical Activity 2018 aimed to showcase the range of activities that take place each week for people to socialise and join others to be active. Hertfordshire is also blessed with beautiful countryside and many parks to explore. To find a local park to get active in visit www.parksherts.co.uk.

The campaign, known informally as HertsYOPA18, followed a format of themed months. We had some fantastic themes including young people, older adults, walking, cycling, parks, families and women and girls, all ending in December with Dance Month!

Our friendly mascot, YOPA, made his way around Hertfordshire to many local events, encouraging children and adults alike to get involved.

The below image shows the key impact across the year. There were some fantastic achievements and increases in participation captured.

We have put together a video to capture the successes of the year. To view it, please click here.

All activities were promoted on social media. Now that we’ve moved into 2019, you can continue to follow the YOPA Legacy to find out about events and activities taking place near you.

HertsYOPA Legacy

There will be a HertsYOPALegacy throughout 2019 and, we hope, beyond. As there currently isn’t a ‘Year of’ planned for 2019 some of the successful monthly themes will run again. These will be led by the same monthly theme leads as for 2018. They have agreed to take full responsibility of these months as there will be no HertsYOPA18 project officer to help assist the projects or facilitate the social media accounts.

The months that will be running are:

Year of Culture 2020

The next “year of” will be the Year of Culture in 2020.  It will follow the same format as the Year of Physical Activity. The Year of Culture will continue with monthly themes and the learning derived from YOPA has been fed into the design of this campaign.

John O’Callaghan, Director at Herts Sports Partnership said:

‘We are pleased to be one of the leading organisations in what has been a momentous year for sport and physical activity in Hertfordshire. We continually strive to get more people, more active, more often, and are thankful to our partners’ on-going support in doing so.’
