On Friday 5 July, over 500 young people took part in the annual County School Games Finals. These young people represented Hertfordshire’s 12 School Sports Partnerships areas to go head to head in an attempt to become county champions in tennis, cricket, inclusive cricket, inclusive golf, tri-golf and hockey. The event was about celebrating sporting talent within the county and inspiring potential athletes of the future, and with nearly 60 schools involved it was a brilliant day.

Tanya Angus, Event organiser for the Hertfordshire School Games said: “The county finals are always the highlight of the school games calendar, and it was an exciting day with lots of close matches across all the competition events. It was great to see so many children and young people from across Hertfordshire come together and enjoy sport and physical activity in the sunshine.”

As part of the day we were delighted to welcome Elaine Wyllie, Founder of The Daily Mile, to launch our celebration run for The Daily Mile in Hertfordshire. In addition, participants were encouraged by Olympians Crista Cullen MBE (Gold in Women’s Hockey in Rio, 2016) and Desirée Henry (Bronze in Women’s 4x100m relay in Rio, 2016), who cheered everyone on, after sharing their stories about their sporting achievements. James and Oliver – finalists from the BBCs The Greatest Dancer – joined in with The Daily Mile after opening the day with one of their performances from the live shows.
