Feel Good for 30

Our Community Sport Ambassadors from the University of Hertfordshire are hosting an online campaign in partnership with Mind in Mid Herts and Age UK Hertfordshire from the 29 March to 11 April.

The ‘Feel Good for 30’ campaign aims to raise awareness around the benefits physical activity has on mental health. It encourages individuals to share their experiences of being active during the two week period and how it makes them feel.

The event organisers are asking for people to do three simple things:

  • Take part in 30 minutes of any type of exercise or physical activity
  • Post a selfie photo, video or a simple status sharing what you have been doing, and how it made you feel – use the hashtag #feelgoodfor30. Remember to tag friends in your post to spread the word…
  • Donate (if you want to!) to one of the group’s chosen charities, using the links below

The group chose these charities because they felt that each understands how the nation’s mental health has altered over the past year. Chloe Dolton, one of the event organisers has a very personal reason for wanting to donate to Age UK Hertfordshire. She explained:

‘My Grandad was in a care home and due to his condition, was unable to take part in much physical activity. When the pandemic hit, the home was prevented from bringing external activity providers in, which led to even greater isolation for people like him. Without simple things like a television or radio to keep him amused, his wellbeing really took a dive.

‘It will undoubtedly take a long time for older people to regain the strength and activity levels they have twelve months ago, but with the help of these charities, hopefully their mental health can begin to improve. Care staff have had so many priorities to tend to; basic food and washing, that they can sometimes rely quite heavily on these charities for extra help.’

Age UK Herfordshire commented:

‘We are delighted to be chosen as one of the charities to be supported by the Feel Good for 30 campaign. The last year has been so challenging for many of our clients who are experiencing increasing loneliness and isolation. The fundraising will help us to continue supporting the most vulnerable older people in Hertfordshire with our range of services including our online activities and comfort parcels that have been provided throughout the lockdowns. Good luck to everyone taking part.’

Mind in Mid Herts, are proud to be one of the event’s chosen charities and said:

‘We are delighted to be part of the “Feel Good for 30” campaign, not only will this support people’s mental and physical health but all money raised will go back into supporting the local community. Our referrals have doubled in the last three months and this money will help us to meet this growing need and ensure no one faces a mental health problem alone.’
