Knebworth Golf Club Captains, Peter Simmons and Brenda Smith, are holding their Charity Golf Day on Saturday 3 October to raise money for the Herts Disability Sports Foundation (HDSF). The event was launched recently by the Knebworth Captains together with Ros Cramp, HDSF Charity Operations Manager, and Gobi Ranganathan, HDSF supporter and International Wheelchair Badminton Player.
Knebworth Golf Club have already raised £6,000 for HDSF in 2020 through sponsored rowing and Trike cycling challenges, raffles, a coffee morning and Quiz Night and hope to more than double that at the Charity Day. 28 teams of four players have already entered the golf competition and further funding will be raised through Hole Sponsorship, a Raffle and an Online Auction. If any local businesses want to sponsor a hole or donate a gift or experience in the online auction then contact Peter Simmons at email@example.com
All of the money raised for HDSF will go towards their ‘Everyone Can Cycle’ project. This project wants to buy a Berkel Bike which is a combination of handbike and recumbent bike with leg movement supported by the strength in the arms and shoulders. This allows the legs to move in a full circle even if they have lost strength and coordination as is the case with conditions like MS and Parkinsons.
Additionally this project is looking to expand the existing Bike Library which allows Adapted Bikes to be loaned to families to make sure they are suitable for their needs. The adapted bikes can cost from £750 to £2,000 each so this scheme allows families to make a significant investment with the confidence it will work for them.
