Hertfordshire’s biggest sports day will take place this Saturday when the Herts Youth Games take place at Hertfordshire Sports Village, on the University of Hertfordshire’s de Havilland campus in Hatfield.
The games celebrate the sporting talents of over 2000 primary and secondary school age children from across the county as they compete in nine different sports, including: Aquathlon (swimming/running), Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boccia (bowls), Cricket, Football, Netball, Table Tennis and Rugby.
The Games, organised by the Herts Youth Games Association, are supported by the University of Hertfordshire and Herts Sports Partnership, with Herts Air Ambulance, the official charity of the event. Tony Marmo, Event Co-ordinator, said: “This is a wonderful showcase for young sporting talent in Hertfordshire and a great day out for everyone. As well as the competitions we also have demonstrations of Dodgeball, Lacrosse, Rounders and Volleyball. The Herts Air Ambulance will also be with us on the day, which is a big thrill for younger visitors with the chance to meet the helicopter crew in person and get a close up view of the air ambulance.”
He added: “Over 2000 people will be with us on the day and over 5,000 young people from every district in Hertfordshire have been involved in the pre-event trials which have taken place through local schools. This event helps offers a huge inspiration the next generation to enjoy sport and activity and appreciate the difference that it can make to their sense of achievement and self confidence.”
