livewire / sport unlimited

A brief background

Sport Unlimited is a national programme aiming to encourage 'semi-sporty' young people aged between 5-19 to become more active.

Sport Unlimited is an integral part of the Government's PE and Sport Strategy for Young People (often referred to as the 5-Hour Offer).  The Sport Unlimited element of the 5-Hour Offer will provide a range of attractive and sustainable opportunities in sporting activities for young people from the 'semi-sporty population segment' to take part in out of school hours during term time.

The national target is for 900,000 young people to be taking part regularly,  in 2 additional hours of sport by 2011.

In Hertfordshire 'Sport Unlimited is known as the 'Livewire Project'.

After 2 very successful years of Liverwire the structure of how the programme is going to be delivered has been modified for year 3. For year 3 SDO’s in conjunction with Community Sport Networks (CSN) and School Sport Partnerships (SSP) have created the delivery programmes based on a greater level of local intelligence and guided by local needs.
